For twenty-two years I taught what I had been taught.
I stood in pulpits and led Bible studies and genuinely believed I was giving people the whole truth of Scripture. I loved Yehovah. I loved the people I taught. And I was missing something so foundational that when the Spirit finally showed it to me I had to sit down and ask myself how I had read the same Bible for two decades and not seen it.
What I had been missing was not obscure. It was not hidden in academic journals or buried in ancient manuscripts only scholars could access. It was sitting in plain sight in the text I had been teaching from for twenty years. The Hebrew foundations of the faith. The covenant framework that gives everything else its meaning. The Torah that Yeshua himself lived and taught and never once suggested His followers should set aside.
Once I saw it I could not unsee it.
That discovery did not just change my theology. It changed how I read Scripture, how I observe the Sabbath, how I mark time through the year, how I understand who I am as a believer grafted into the covenant people of Yehovah. It changed everything. And it raised a question I could not stop asking - why had nobody ever shown me this?
The answer, as it turned out, was a long story involving Rome, Constantine, centuries of deliberate separation from the Hebrew foundations of the faith, and a church that had accepted the substitution so completely it had forgotten anything was ever lost.
That is the story this book tells.

The Disciple: Our Faith Foundation is the first book in a discipleship series designed to walk believers from wherever they are to the authentic Hebrew foundations of the faith Yeshua actually taught.
It is not a systematic theology. It is not a denominational statement. It is the account of one man's journey out of twenty-two years of sincere but incomplete faith into the ancient path - and the foundational teaching that journey produced.
Book One covers the ground every disciple needs under their feet before anything else can be built. How a Hebrew faith became a Roman religion and what was lost in the transition. The true gospel Yeshua preached - the Kingdom of God - and why it is not what most believers were taught. Covenant, Torah, the Sabbath, and the appointed times of Yehovah as living discipleship tools rather than obsolete Jewish traditions. The work of the Holy Spirit in a Torah observant life. And the prophetic awareness every believer needs to understand the times they are living in.
This is not a book for people who are comfortable with comfortable Christianity. It is a book for people who already sense something is missing and are willing to follow the truth wherever it leads.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Phil Balay is a ministry leader, teacher, and author with over two decades of ministry experience. He leads a home fellowship in central Indiana and is the founder of Vigilant Faith Ministry. After twenty-two years in traditional evangelical ministry the Spirit began uncovering the Hebrew foundations of the faith he had been teaching - a process that led him out of comfortable Christianity and into the ancient path.
He writes and teaches from the conviction that the gospel Yeshua preached has never changed, that Torah is Yehovah's eternal instruction for His people, and that the deceptions layered onto the faith over seventeen centuries are worth naming clearly so that believers hungry for truth can find their way home.
The Disciple series is his attempt to give every serious believer the foundation he wishes someone had given him twenty years ago.
